Clarke's Charcoal Broiler in Mountain View closed today after 75 years

It was one of the last of the “steakburger” joints where you ordered your burger at the register and dressed it from a bar of condiments.

If you worked in Downtown Mountain View, it was a popular place for lunch.

The last surviving one I know of is Kirk’s on Bascom in Campbell. There’s a dentist’s office over where the Kirk’s in Cupertino used to be.
